Goodhertz has released LA-210, a free saturation plugin that combines an opto compressor, soft clipper, and cassette tape model in a single interface designed to look like a Southern California freeway map. I have to point this out right away. I’m a huge fan of Goodhertz plugins, both for the way they sound and for their super clean interfaces. Lossy is my favorite of the bunch, and I’ve yet to find a bitcrusher that matches it for character, but honestly, everything from them is fantastic. So seeing a new freebie from Goodhertz is amazing news. LA-210 is a “greatest hits” plugin…
Karanyi Sounds regularly offers limited-time discounts on new and existing products, with the newly released Cloudmax 3 texture resonator now available at a limited-time $20 discount. One potential downside of these limited-time offers (if there is such a thing) is that the window of opportunity is often very small, making it easy to miss out. This time, we’ve got the release of Cloudmax 3 with special launch pricing, and the offer ends on May 31st, 2026. So, as of now, there’s still plenty of time left to take advantage of the offer. The discount brings the price down from $79 to…
Developer Sender Spike has released DR.89, a free Roland TR-909 inspired drum machine plugin for Windows. If the name Sender Spike sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve covered a few of this developer’s plugins recently, including the SN Zero hybrid FM synthesizer, the qb (Kyubi) multimode distortion, and the filter.tank dual filter. SN Zero is one of the better free FM synths I’ve used recently, so when I saw a 909 plugin from the same developer, I was curious to hear what it would sound like. DR.89 is not sample-based. It’s a fully synthesized drum machine modeled on the 909’s circuit…
Every Producer Starts the Same Way “Before you make music… you fall in love with music.” Every producer starts as a fan. Obsessing over albums. Watching interviews. Replaying songs a hundred times trying to understand: “How did they make that sound?” Over time, that curiosity evolves into identity. And eventually… You stop just listening to records. You start shaping them. Quick Summary 👉 Music producers come in many forms, including traditional producers, musicians, engineers, mix engineers, songwriters, beatmakers, rappers, and vocal producers. Each approaches music production from a different angle and skill set. The 7 Stages of…

We recreated the sound of guitar amplifiers that sell for a million dollars. Now, they’re available to music creators everywhere. For guitar players, the Dumble Overdrive Special* is arguably the most immortalized piece of gear ever made. Custom-built in small numbers, and used by artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana, and Joe Bonamassa, these amps often sell for well over $250,000. We sat down with UA product designer and tone guru James Santiago to discover the magic behind the Dumble ODS, and how Universal Audio brought these ultra-rare amps to life as a UAD plug-in. The UAD Enigmatic ’82 plug-in…
uchDeveloper Analog Obsession has released MuChild, a free Fairchild 660 emulation for macOS and Windows. It’s a good day for Analog Obsession fans; we’ve already had LAEA and RazorClip from the developer this year, and here we are getting ready to discuss another new release. This latest release is MuChild, Analog Obsession’s take on the legendary Fairchild 660 Vari-MU compressor. MuChild is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS (10.11 or later) and Windows (10-11). Many people consider the Fairchild the Holy Grail of compressors, and that’s reflected in the obscene cost of original hardware units. Luckily, we…
NovoNotes has released SnapClip, a free clipper plugin for macOS and Windows. I use clippers a lot in my sound design work, and my go-to approach is to put one before the limiter every time. Taming the extreme peaks with a clipper first means the limiter has an easier job, and, to me, the result sounds more transparent with no pumping. SnapClip is a clipper built around two things: clean processing through high-quality oversampling, and a graph-based interface that gives you direct control over the soft-knee curve rather than a single knob. The plugin uses up to 16x oversampling combined…
Pulsar Audio is giving away Smasher, its €49 FET compressor plugin, as a free perpetual license. If the name sounds familiar, it should. We’ve covered Smasher being free four times before, going back to 2020. If you’ve somehow missed it every single time, here’s another chance. And I’m having a hard time coming up with new headlines for these articles. Maybe next time I’ll just go with “Pulsar Audio Smasher is FREE again and again and again..” Smasher is a focused compressor built around one specific 1176 trick. Rather than emulating the full 1176 with all its ratio options and…
Mastering The Mix has released STEREOVAULT, a stereo width plugin for macOS and Windows. The plugin addresses a common problem where stereo widening can make audio sound bigger immediately, but it often weakens the low end, blurs the center of the mix, and introduces phase issues that hurt translation outside the studio. STEREOVAULT fixes this by suggesting instrument-specific and genre-specific starting points across four settings: Focused, Balanced, Wide, and Super Wide. Level Match is the main part of the workflow. Wider sounds often feel better simply because they are louder, so it’s easy to mistake a volume jump for improvement. STEREOVAULT…
