Analog Obsession has released an updated version of LOVEND, its free harmonic bass enhancer plugin for macOS and Windows.
LOVEND is designed to add weight and focus to the low end. It gives you a continuous frequency control from 60 Hz to 180 Hz, up to 10 dB of boost, and an output control with +/-10 dB of gain adjustment.
The newest release is version 3.0, and the two main changes here are the fully rewritten DSP code and AAX support.
The interface is still classic Analog Obsession, and I mean that in a good way. It has a minimal control layout, nothing flashy, but the colors are really well chosen, the knobs look nice and crisp, and the whole thing feels more professional than quite a few paid plugins I’ve seen lately.
Also, it sticks to one of the main things I like about many Analog Obsession plugins. You get only what you need on the screen, without extra tabs or clutter, and you can get straight to dialing in a sound.
The updated version looks identical to the old one, so the real change is happening internally. I tested it against the previous version, and the low-end response feels quite a bit different.
It reminds me a little of the classic Pultec EQ trick, where you boost and attenuate around a similar frequency area to create a more focused low end rather than just making everything louder. With LOVEND, the new version seems to bring the low-end bump into better shape, and I prefer it over the older release.
That is worth keeping in mind if you already use LOVEND in old projects. Since the DSP has been rewritten and the response is not identical, existing sessions will not sound the same if they load the updated plugin in place of the old one.
The controls are the same as before. Frequency chooses where the enhancement happens, Boost sets the amount of low-end lift, and Output lets you compensate the final level. The plugin label also doubles as a bypass button. It is red when active and turns white when bypassed.
Analog Obsession notes that LOVEND does not use oversampling but includes embedded light-weight anti-aliasing. The plugin also has a resizable interface using the bottom-right corner handle, with scaling from 50% to 200%.
The resizing behavior has a small caveat. Duplicated plugin instances remember the current GUI size, but new instances open at the default size unless you save the resized state as your DAW’s default preset.
LOVEND is available in VST3, AU, and AAX Native/Audiosuite formats for macOS 10.11 or higher, with Intel and Apple Silicon support. The Windows version runs on Windows 10 and 11 in VST3 and AAX Native/Audiosuite formats.
