Semedo Audio has released AEROMOTION, a free multi-mode modulation plugin for macOS and Windows.
Is it an airplane? Is it a cooling fan? No, it’s a modulation plugin!
AEROMOTION combines ten modulation engines in one place, with Chorus, Vibrato, Tremolo, Rotary, Aero, Flanger, Phaser, Harmonic Tremolo, AutoPan, and Detune modes covering everything from gentle width and movement to more obvious rhythmic and stereo effects.
We are seeing lots of small, fast-moving plugin releases lately, and some of them definitely have what I would call a vibe-coded vibe. I am still trying to figure out the best way to cover this new wave on BPB, and I am strongly considering giving these plugins a separate category at some point.
For now, I am trying to focus only on the ones that do something useful or at least bring enough features to make them worth a look. AEROMOTION fits that better than many of the other seemingly vibe-coded freebies that have been landing in the inbox recently.
The more interesting part here is that you can select a secondary modulation engine and blend it with the main one. The developer gives examples like Chorus with Aero, Rotary with Detune, Tremolo with AutoPan, Phaser with Flanger, and Vibrato with Harmonic Tremolo.
There is also an independent Pan Motion section, which can add left-to-right movement regardless of the active modulation mode. It has its own on/off switch and speed control, with smoothing to avoid clicks when changing settings.
The advanced section adds five LFO shapes, free-running or host-synced modulation, note divisions from 1/1 to 1/32, triplets, stereo phase adjustment, envelope-controlled modulation depth, a Tone Focus control, a Vibe macro, and oversampling up to 8x.
AEROMOTION also includes 48 factory presets, preset search, category filters, favorites, A/B comparison, preset morphing, randomization, user preset saving, and host automation support.
I think the interface layout could be more intuitive. The main part of the GUI is mostly dedicated to large meters and visual feedback, while the controls you are likely to reach for most often are a bit crammed toward the bottom. Personally, I would prefer that the main controls had the bigger central area, with the meters playing a more secondary role.
That said, visual feedback is clearly part of the plugin’s design. You get input and output meters, waveform displays, a stereo vectorscope-style display, correlation and mono compatibility information, and animated modulation feedback.
AEROMOTION is available as a free/name-your-price download via Ko-fi, with donations supporting the developer. It runs as a 64-bit VST3 plugin on Windows 10 or 11, and as AU and VST3 on macOS 11 Big Sur or later, with Universal Apple Silicon and Intel binaries.
