Saint Mike DSP has released QingX Clean Amp, a free clean guitar amp simulator for macOS and Windows.
We have covered quite a few Saint Mike DSP freebies over the past several months, including Ceiling Fan, Vocal Acrobatics, Tamazight Metal Amp, and the recent PitchCure pitch correction plugin.
QingX Clean Amp continues the same free-with-Pro-upgrade approach, but this time the focus is on clean guitar tones.
I have always found good clean guitar tones harder to achieve with plugins than distorted ones. QingX Clean Amp sounds pretty good right away, so it is a nice quick solution if you like this type of clean and bright guitar tone.
The plugin is designed as a complete clean guitar rig for DI tracks. The signal path runs through a compressor, an amp head, cabinet simulation, a 9-band EQ, and post effects.
The free version includes one amp head, called Blue, which I found very good for cleans and is also very expressive. The Pro version adds two more amp heads called Dark and Fish, but those are not included in the free download.
For pre-amp processing, the free version gives you the Glue compressor and Bloom overdrive. The compressor tightens the picking response and Bloom adds early harmonic saturation before the amp stage. The Pro-only Qingxian Pre-Amp is not part of the free version.
The cabinet section includes three cabinet models in the free version, with low-pass and high-pass trimming plus output level control. The Pro version expands this to six cabinet modes and adds a user IR loader.
The 9-band EQ covers guitar-relevant frequencies from 62 Hz to 16 kHz, with ±12 dB of control per band. There is also a threshold noise gate, which is convenient for cleaning up single-coil noise.
QingX Clean Amp also includes Echo and Halo Reverb in the free version, giving you basic synced delay and room tones. The Pro version adds a granular shimmer-style pedal called Suiguang, along with Pro Quality Mode for higher processing quality.
The utility section is pretty cool. You get transpose over +/- 12 semitones, stereo input support, a Spread widener, A/B compare, and a built-in tuner that mutes the output while active.
The free version includes 20+ presets, while the Pro version includes 50+ presets. I like that Saint Mike DSP keeps making these free versions more than simple demos, even when some of the more advanced features are reserved for the paid edition.
QingX Clean Amp is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS 11 or higher, with Intel and Apple Silicon support. The Windows version runs on Windows 10/11 64-bit in VST3 and AAX formats.
