Purafied Audio has made Liquid Death Snare free again, dropping the price from $38 to $0 for a limited time.
I just received an email from Purafied Audio about the offer, and this is definitely a nice one to catch if you work with acoustic drums. If you have a weak acoustic snare track that needs replacing or reinforcing, Liquid Death Snare is fantastic for that job.
We covered Liquid Death Snare on BPB when it was previously free, and it is good to see the plugin return as a free download. There is no expiry date listed on the product page at the time of writing, so I would grab it sooner rather than later if you want it in your account.
Liquid Death Snare is a virtual instrument plugin built around a Liquid Death and SJC Drums snare recorded by producer Sam Pura. The source snare is a 14 by 6.5-inch aluminum drum, and Purafied says the instrument contains more than 500 samples.
The plugin is not just a single snare hit mapped across the keyboard. Sam Pura recorded the drum at 25 tunings, from low C through middle C and up to high C, so the tuning control moves between separately recorded samples rather than simply pitch-shifting one sound.
That’s insanely cool and detailed.
You can trigger rimshots, flams, and multi-velocity hits, with MIDI learn available for each sample type. The One Shot mode plays the same rimshot sample repeatedly for a more consistent replacement-style sound, while the regular mode cycles through multiple samples for a more natural feel.
The mixer section is my favorite part of the plugin, though. Liquid Death Snare gives you faders for the individual microphone channels, including top, bottom, shell, U47 mono room, overheads, close room, and far room mics. Each channel has solo, mute, phase invert, and output routing options, so you can keep it simple inside the plugin or send the microphones to separate DAW channels for further processing.
According to the manual, the samples were recorded with ten microphones in The Panda Studios in Fremont, California. The setup includes a Shure 545 on the top head, a Blue Mouse on the bottom, a modified Reslo ribbon on the shell, a custom Panda U47 room mic, spaced sE RN17 overheads, close room ribbon mics, and far room Panda C12 microphones.
Liquid Death Snare also includes 38 presets created by Sam Pura and 32 featured artists, plus user preset slots, undo/redo, A/B switching, a resizable interface, master output volume, and polarity flip.
Liquid Death Snare is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats. It is a 64-bit standalone stereo virtual instrument plugin and does not require Kontakt or any third-party sampler.
