Boomer Hotel has released NULLIFY, a codec audition and null-test plugin that is free with a coupon code until August 31st, 2026.
NULLIFY normally costs $19, but you can get it for free at checkout with the coupon code BHPLUGINS2026. The checkout runs through Lemon Squeezy, and your email address is required at checkout, but there is no account system or iLok.
The plugin comes from Z, a producer and mixing engineer based in New York. It is the first plugin from Boomer Hotel, and they also have a musical EQ called KEYCOMB planned next.
NULLIFY is designed to show what lossy streaming codecs do to your mix. It basically encodes the incoming audio to emulate what the streaming platform will do to your audio, lines it back up with the dry signal, and lets you switch between the original, the encoded version, and the difference signal.
That difference mode is the really useful part here. I mean, you can definitely hear the difference by comparing the dry and wet signals by ear, but the difference mode makes it clear.
By subtracting the codec output from the original, NULLIFY lets you hear exactly the part of the signal that got changed during encoding. In practice, that can mean a lot of things, including cymbal smear, pre-echo, missing low end, stereo changes, or codec artifacts that only show up once the track is pushed through a streaming-style format.
The supported tiers include Spotify-style Ogg Vorbis at 320 kbps, 160 kbps, and 96 kbps, plus AAC options for Apple Music and Spotify web playback. The AAC tiers use Apple’s own encoder, so they are available on macOS only. The Ogg Vorbis tiers work on macOS and Windows.
NULLIFY can run live on a track or bus, so you do not have to export a file just to hear the codec version. It also reports codec latency to the DAW for delay compensation and shows running LUFS, null depth, and true peak information while playback continues.
There is also an optional auto -14 LUFS trim for auditioning the codec closer to common streaming playback levels, plus a Difference Gain control to make the residual easier to hear.
The demo mode is free, but it dips the audio briefly every 20 seconds and locks the Apple Music tiers. That said, the free coupon unlocks the full version during the promotion.
NULLIFY is available as a standalone app, AU plugin, and VST3 plugin for macOS and Windows. One license key unlocks all formats on the same machine.
