In this YouTube Series with Francois we’re analysing the Vocal Melodic House style of Norwegian sensation Oskar Med K (modelled after a track called “Make Me Feel”).
Watch and see what we can learn from this signature Jan Blomqvist style merging dreamy soundscapes, groovy moogy keys and groovy drums.
The key lessons from this episode are:
- Drums: Deep short kick sound plus a rim shot as a clap sound, combined with closed hihats on the 3rd beat
- Bass: A “5ths Bass” to go along with the snappy main pluck and an “8th notes offbeat bass” in the main part for groove
- Keys/Hook – Layer 1: A clean filtered saw wave top layer pluck sound
- Keys/Hook – Layer 2: A dirty low mids layer with 5ths overtones for extra dirt
- Vocals: dreamy, repetitive, call & response in between the hook notes
- Style overall: The GENIUS is in the PAUSE and the clean sound design of the hook. It’s a crystal clear, snappy but dreamy sound without using pads and Atmos/Drones.
