Greer Studios Presents has released Signature Delay, a free delay plugin and standalone app for Windows.
We have covered a couple of interesting free delay plugins on BPB lately, including FRCTL Audio DLAY Lite and Trebless Tesseract Echo, so there’s definitely no shortage of freeware delays.
Signature Delay is a relatively simpler one (although it still has some interesting cards up its sleeve), but still worth a look if you want a free delay with several flavors.
First off, I like that it has multiple delay modes, so there is some variety to get out of it. You get Digital, Tape, Analog, and Lo-Fi modes, plus tempo sync, note divisions, feedback, mix, tone, drive, modulation, stereo width, ping-pong, freeze, and bypass.
The ducking feature is the main advantage for me, though. Ducking is always useful on delays, especially in sound design work where you want the echoes and movement without drowning the main sound in repeats.
Basically, the delayed signal drops back under the dry signal and swells into the gaps. That helps keep vocals, leads, or sound-design layers clearer without needing to automate the delay level manually.
Ping-pong is included for stereo throws, while freeze can hold the delay indefinitely. Between those, the four character modes, and the modulation controls, Signature Delay should cover clean rhythmic echoes, dirtier lo-fi repeats, and more animated delay effects.
Currently, the main limitation is platform support. Signature Delay is currently Windows-only and is available as a VST3 plugin and standalone app. Greer Studios Presents says a macOS version is coming soon.
Signature Delay is free permanently, but an email address is required to receive the download link. The developer says no account or iLok is needed, and the download includes an install guide.
