Decapitator offers five analog saturation models covering everything from subtle warmth to extreme saturation, and beyond with the Punish button.
The five included analog saturation models come from much-loved vintage hardware units.
A – Ampex 350 Tape
E – Chandler/EMI TG Channel
N – Neve 1057
T – Thermionic Culture Culture Vulture Triode Setting
P – Thermionic Culture Culture Vulture Pentode Setting
In addition to modeling classic hardware units, Soundtoys included an analog-modeled tone control to shape the saturation.
You also have Low Cut (20 Hz to 1 kHz), High Cut (1 kHz to 20 kHz) controls, and a Mix knob for parallel processing.
With all of those analog models and shaping options in mind, much of the attraction still comes from cranking the Drive and hitting the Punish button.
Punish introduces additional gain, which is often more akin to throwing everything off a cliff than a gentle nudge over the edge.
But it highlights the excellent and time-consuming work the developer put into recreating the behavior of analog gear.
