Friendgineer Labs has released Chance, a free random multi-FX plugin for macOS and Windows.
Chance is another 2026 KVR Developer Challenge entry I liked this year. I will take a closer look at a few more KVRDC plugins separately, but this is one of my favorites because I simply love plugins that can give you random results.
That is something I enjoy a lot during sound design work. Sometimes you just feel stuck and need something to push you forward, and plugins where effects can get unpredictable are exactly what I need in my workflow from time to time.
So I was super happy to find Chance. It is built around randomized effect chains split into four categories: delay, modulation, reverb, and harmonics.
You choose how much of each category you want, then squeeze the duck (yes, haha) to blend everything together with multiband compression and limiting.
The result is, obviously, not always what you’d expect. It is all about happy accidents, sudden changes, and finding something you probably would not dial in manually.
You can still shape the outcome, though. Chance lets you blend each effect category to taste, and there are presets for each effect in solo mode so you can hear what each part is adding. One important detail is that saving a preset does not save the exact randomized sound. It saves the blend of that randomized effect.
That makes sense for this kind of plugin. It keeps the workflow unpredictable, but not completely out of control.
The interface is pretty sick, too. It is very unlike anything I have seen lately, so kudos to Friendgineer Labs for making something that doesn’t fit any norm but still feels intuitive.
The developer says there was no AI vibecoding involved, just purpose-built DSP created in collaboration with AudioLoom. Every effect was chosen for repeatability and reliability, so even the crazier results should still stay somewhat grounded.
That said, the KVR reviews mention that some outcomes can get loud, so keep an eye on your levels when experimenting.
Chance is available as an AU, VST3, and AAX plugin for macOS and Windows. The current version is 1.0.6.
