Canvas Audio has released Double Dare, a free vocal doubler plugin for macOS and Windows.
The freebie marks Canvas Audio’s first anniversary, and Double Dare is available as a free download until September 1st. It normally costs $29.
Double Dare is a quick stereo vocal doubler. It can give you anything from subtle thickening to a more noticeable doubled effect with minimal setup.
The interface is kind of cool, although definitely a bit random. The sound has nothing to do with vintage consoles, but the GUI reminds me of an old-school Nintendo controller, which somehow works really well here.
The plugin keeps things simple with three main controls. Delay sets how tight or wide the doubled timing feels, Tone shapes the delayed signal from a mid-forward sound to a more grungy lo-fi color, and Mix blends the dry and wet signal.
That Mix control is a nice addition because Double Dare can work directly on a vocal track or as a send effect. On a track, you can blend in just enough width or thickness. On the other hand, on a bus, you can push the plugin fully wet and treat it like a dedicated doubling send.
There is also input/output linking for easier level matching, a preset system with factory and artist presets, power bypass, and a resizable interface.
As the name suggests, this is not trying to be a full vocal production suite. It is a fun little doubling plugin for doubled vocals, backing vocals, hooks, ad-libs, or any source where a little stereo looseness helps.
Double Dare supports VST3, AU, and AAX formats. The product page says Canvas Audio plugins support all major DAWs, and the download is available instantly from the product page.
