Baby Audio has released SubCulture, a pitch-tracking bass enhancer plugin for macOS and Windows. SubCulture is designed to add low-end weight that stays in tune with a monophonic input signal. In other words, instead of boosting a fixed frequency or adding a static sub-layer, the plugin detects the incoming pitch in real time and uses that information to drive its enhancement engines. The idea behind this setup is to avoid one of the common problems with bass enhancement, one that I run into frequently, where extra low-end energy can clash with the actual notes in a bassline. Baby Audio says…
Developer MUEDsp has released two free macOS plugins, MUEDsat and MUEDlim. Both plugins are taken from MUEDsp masterchain, a mastering suite that is currently in development. According to the developer Atsushi, each plugin is an actual stage from the master-bus chain used by the developer, pulled out and made free. So basically, these are not stripped-down demos or time-limited trials. We are getting parts of the full product for free. Again, I am getting a strong vibe from the website, but the plugins felt well-made during testing. I signed up, and the download link arrived instantly. It is a simple…
MAP Audio’s PAM is a pattern-based sampler and drum-synth instrument for macOS and Windows, currently available with an exclusive 15% BPB discount. Use the coupon code BPB15 at checkout to get 15% off PAM until August 15. The regular price is $150, and MAP Audio also offers a rent-to-own option and a 7-day fully functional trial. PAM is not a simple one-shot sampler. It gives us eight independent cells, and each cell can host a sampler or one of the built-in drum synth engines. It basically combines sample playback, synthesized drum sounds, sequencing, modulation, effects, and looping in a single…
OBLIK Audio has released Oblik, a free open beta reverb plugin for Windows. What I appreciate right away is that “oblik” means shape in my language, too. Not everyone will catch the wordplay, probably, but it was clear to me from the start, and it fits the plugin’s idea perfectly. Oblik is built around a really cool idea. What if a reverb room did not have to stay symmetrical, and if it could change its shape? Instead of only changing size, decay, and damping, Oblik lets you deform the room shape itself, point that asymmetry in a specific direction, and…
Two DAWs. Two Philosophies. “The tool shapes the work.” Every DAW can: Record audio Edit MIDI Mix songs Use plugins But they don’t all encourage you to make music the same way. Some DAWs feel like traditional recording studios. Others feel like modern composition environments. LUNA and Logic Pro are perfect examples. They’re both outstanding. But they were built with very different ideas about how music should be made. *Note: Logic Pro is available for Mac only. Quick Summary 👉 Choose Logic Pro if you’re a songwriter, composer, electronic musician, or producer who relies heavily on MIDI, virtual instruments, and…

The interface matters to me, too, not just as eye candy…
Bjango has released Double Freak, a free dual oscillator frequency follower plugin for macOS and Windows. Double Freak is one of the several entries I really liked in this year’s KVR Developer Challenge. I will cover a few more challenge entries separately (James also checked some of them out here and here), but this one stood out to me because it’s fun and also useful for sound design. Bjango has released several cool plugins this year, and Double Freak is the developer’s free challenge entry. I also like the interface. Those buttons look super clean, but it’s also fun to…

To get Spikes for free, add them to your cart on the HoRNet website and use the coupon code SPIKESFREE at checkout. The plugin is usually priced at 12.99€. UJAM is offering UFX DELAY as a free download for anyone who signs up for the company’s summer sale mailing list. To get it for free, you’ll need to visit the signup page and enter your email. I tested the process yesterday, and the email arrived right away. Clicking the button in the email opened UJAM’s store, showing a 100% discount coupon for UFX DELAY. I’ve always liked UJAM’s plugins. They have this fun approach with many of their instruments and Finisher effects, where you get ready-made sounds or multi-effect chains that you can apply quickly instead of building everything…
Eldoraudio has launched Guitar Audio to MIDI Converter, a browser-based tool that transcribes guitar recordings into standard MIDI files. The new guitar converter joins Eldoraudio’s existing Piano Audio to MIDI Converter. You upload an audio file, set the BPM if needed, and get back a MIDI transcription for editing in your DAW. For anyone who records guitar parts first and worries about MIDI later, this could be useful. A MIDI version lets you fix wrong notes, tighten timing, change tempo, layer virtual instruments, or rework a part without replaying it from scratch. The tool accepts MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and…
