Acon Digital has released Multiply 2, a major update to its free chorus effect plugin for macOS and Windows.
Acon Digital shipped the update earlier today, and I checked it out right away. Multiply has long been one of my favorite free chorus plugins, and this new version is even better than before.
If you already use Multiply, this is absolutely worth downloading right away. And if you are simply looking for a dependable free chorus plugin for your DAW, Multiply 2 should be high on your list.
We already included Multiply in our best free chorus plugins roundup, where I mentioned that it sounds fantastic on electric pianos and guitars. I also like using it to fatten up lead vocals without making them feel smeared or artificial.
The new update brings a redesigned interface and 80 new presets, making it easier to reach the chorus, widening, and sound-design sides of the plugin.
Multiply uses a phase-randomizing filter that is applied to each simulated voice. That’s why it sounds so nice and mellow. The whole idea is to avoid the metallic comb-filtering artifacts that can make simpler chorus effects sound thin or hollow.
The plugin can simulate up to six additional voices, with independent pitch and loudness modulation. Subtle settings work well for natural thickening, while more extreme settings can push Multiply into wider, more unstable modulation effects.
You also get a built-in five-band equalizer for shaping only the effect signal, leaving the dry sound untouched. That is useful when you want the chorus to sit behind a vocal, guitar, or synth instead of clouding the whole mix.
The integrated pre-delay section can move Multiply beyond classic chorus into diffuse, modulated echo-style effects, which is where it becomes useful for sound design too.
Existing Multiply users can download the latest version from their Acon Digital account. New users can download the full version for free from the product page.
Multiply 2 is available for Windows and macOS in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats. It supports mono and stereo processing and works in compatible hosts including Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Cubase, Reaper, FL Studio, and others.
