Trackspacer is a 64-bit only release for macOS (VST, AU, AAX) and Windows (VST, AAX).
Wavesfactory describes Trackspacer as similar to a sidechain compressor plugin, but more transparent and precise.
The purpose of the plugin is to create space in a mix by carving out frequencies from a secondary track, thereby creating space for your target track.
This is achieved via a 32-band EQ that dynamically responds to the sidechain signal.
The plugin analyses the spectrum of the sidechain and applies a reversed EQ curve to the other track.
This creates space for your target track, as it cuts the exact frequencies it needs on other tracks.
The result is that when you have a lead part, for example, a main vocal, you can give it room to breathe quickly without a whole bunch of fiddling.
You can adjust Trackspacer in a simple way with the main knob, which allows you to set the amount of frequency reduction.
From there, you can fine-tune with the Low-Cut and High-Cut filters. There’s also an Advanced Panel with Pan, Stereo, or Mid-Side processing modes, Attack, Release, and a Sidechain audition mode to hear how the filters interact with the Sidechain.
Even with the advanced features, overall Trackspacer offers quite a simple workflow, meaning it’s easy to chuck on and give your target track some space and presence.
Wavesfactory released Trackspacer back in November 2012, then gave it major version 2.0 and 2.5 updates in June 2013 and May 2018, respectively, with the latter being a complete rebuild from scratch.
It has continued to be given significant updates since then, and is now in version 2.5.10, which was released in April 2023.
So Trackspacer has been around for quite a while now, but I think it’s fair to say the functionality it offers is quite distinctive, meaning it’s still getting plenty of use from producers.
There are other, more recently released plugins on the market with similar features, like Fab Filter’s Pro MB and Oeksound’s Soothe2, but both of them are in the ballpark of $200, so getting this functionality for $29 with Trackspacer is a pretty solid deal.
