UVI Dual Delay X, a creative stereo delay plugin for macOS and Windows, is available for just $19 at Plugin Boutique until June 30.
Dual Delay X is a highly musical delay that takes the classic effect in some unexpected directions that I find super inspiring when working on my cinematic SFX.
Rather than relying on the standard multitap or tape delay approach, UVI has designed the engine around unitary rotation and reflection matrices. This concept borrows ideas from feedback delay networks used in reverb algorithms.
The result is an exceptionally cool delay effect with lush, spacious, and sometimes downright trippy echoes. I love using this one on percussion loops. The results are often downright amazing, even by simply browsing through the presets.
The concept behind Dual Delay X may sound complex, but the plugin is a breeze to use. Everything is displayed on a single panel, with stereo and phase graphs at the top, and delay/feedback path controls split left and right.
This layout lets you dive in quickly, regardless of your workflow. It’s equally easy to start by tweaking factory presets or designing new patches from scratch.
Dual Delay X can be clean and subtle or packed with character and aggression, which is my preferred way to use it.
The feedback path includes several powerful shaping tools like filtering (peak, high cut, and low cut), tape-style saturation, digital grit (bit crushing and downsampling), and stereo field effects like diffusion and dispersion. The built-in modulation section is relatively simple but effective, with depth, rate, and offset controls.
One thing I particularly enjoy about Dual Delay X is how it strikes a balance between being unique and being easy to learn and use. The unusual rotation/reflection matrix setup lets you sculpt stereo space in a way that’s hard to replicate with other delays. And if you strip back the feedback path entirely, what’s left still sounds excellent.
The plugin ships with a great selection of presets, organized by category (Mono, Stereo, Reverbish, FX, etc.). If you’re in a rush, the A/B comparison system and parameter lock features make it easy to audition options without losing your custom settings.
I’ve been a fan of UVI’s FX since Relayer, and Dual Delay X continues that trajectory with a fun, original twist on delay design. It’s well worth a look, especially while it’s on sale.
Dual Delay X is compatible with macOS 10.14 through 15 (Sequoia) and Windows 10/11. Formats include VST, VST3, AU, and AAX. Activation requires a free iLok account, and each license includes three activations.
