From developer Timerift Audio comes Oh My Grain, a free granular delay for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
This time, we’re adding Oh My Grain to the free creative delay list.
Oh My Grain is a free granular delay plugin from Timerift Audio, available as a VST3 plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
The plugin, like many much-loved delay plugins, features a dual-playhead design.
Each playhead (A/B) has independent controls for adjusting various parameters.
The great thing about granular effects is that you can turn the simplest sound into something much more interesting and complex by creating layered texture and glitchy rhythmic movements.
Oh My Grain does this by allowing you to adjust grain parameters such as Distance, Length, Window, Density, and Pitch.
The dual-playhead design lets you lean into complexity further by creating contrasting textures and using pitch to introduce harmonic content or tension.
It’s also a great way to create glitchy rhythms that give a sound the movement it needs.

In addition to the Playhead parameters, you have global settings for Color and Feedback, and dedicated Dry/Wet controls rather than a single knob.
Although the idea of adding texture and movement might seem like a rinse-and-repeat process, Oh My Grain is a sound design tool that fits a variety of tasks.
It’s a good way to add subtle variation to a simple sound, like a shimmering, but relatively smooth texture.
In other cases, such as cinematic soundscapes, you can create grittier textures that shape the atmosphere or emotion more distinctly.
And, of course, it offers that evolution of sound that lets you sit on a simple pad far longer without becoming stale.
Oh My Grain has a straightforward interface and workflow, which makes it easy to get straight into sound design.
