Soundtoys is giving away Little MicroShift for free today as part of its annual 12 Days of Christmas promotion, and if you’ve been following BPB for a while, you’ll know this is a big deal.
Little MicroShift is hands down my favorite Soundtoys freebie. I originally grabbed it during a similar promotion back in 2020, and it has been one of the permanent plugins on my vocals and synth buses ever since.
In fact, if you asked me to recommend just one Soundtoys plugin, this would be it (although Little AlterBoy also rocks).
In essence, Little MicroShift is a stereo widening and doubling effect based on a classic studio trick: tiny pitch shifts combined with short delays that constantly move over time. We recently covered a couple of similar plugins: Lil’ Miss Doubler and Tape Double Track.
But Little MicroShift is in a league of its own for me because it’s so easy to use and sounds so good.
You get instant width and thickness without noticeable modulation artifacts. It’s subtle when you want it to be, but it can still make a track feel noticeably bigger.
I use it most on vocals and synths, but it works just as well on guitars, backing vocals, pads, or anything that feels a bit flat in mono.
But as I said, what I love most is how stupidly easy it is to use. You don’t tweak parameters for five minutes, wondering if it’s actually helping or destroying your sound. You click one of the three modes, set the mix, and the track just sounds better.
Gearheads will tell you that Little MicroShift captures the vibe of classic hardware pitch shifters like the Eventide H3000 or AMS DMX units, and while that’s true, it’s not really the point for me.
The emulated hardware doesn’t matter nearly as much as the result. This one really isn’t about obsessing over emulation accuracy but about the musical results, and it delivers.

The interface is dead simple. You get three widening styles, each with a slightly different character, and a Mix knob to blend the effect. In the full version, you can also adjust the frequency focus, detuning, and delay between the main and modulated signal, but I don’t miss those parameters at all.
Little MicroShift is usually included with MicroShift and the Soundtoys bundle and isn’t sold individually, so grabbing it for free during this promotion is a no-brainer. Even if you already own a dozen doublers and wideners, this one earns its place.
Little MicroShift is available for macOS (10.15 or later) and Windows 10 or later in 64-bit AAX Native, AAX AudioSuite, VST2, VST3, and AU formats. Apple Silicon and VST3 are supported.
