Saint Mike DSP has released PitchCure, a free vocal pitch correction plugin for macOS and Windows.
It’s a solid free autotune alternative, and while it doesn’t reinvent the category, it gives you a bit more hands-on control than some of the more minimal free options out there.
Honestly, there’s already a decent crop of free autotune plugins around, and if you’re shopping for one, our roundup of the best free autotune VST plugins is the place to start for a side-by-side look. What stands out to me about PitchCure is how many of the pitch correction algorithm controls are exposed on the front panel.
The Speed knob sets how aggressive the correction is, going from transparent tuning all the way to hard T-Pain-style snapping. Transition controls how the voice moves between corrected notes, so you can go from instant hard snaps to smooth portamento glides.
My favorite is the Humanize control that preserves vibrato and natural expression, so you can keep the correction strong without the whole performance going robotic. There’s also a Color knob, which is a tilt EQ that adds chest warmth on the dark side or air on the bright side.
For setting up the correction, you can let PitchCure auto-detect the key with one click, build a custom scale using the Edit Notes matrix, or switch to MIDI Target mode to force the vocal to follow the exact notes you play on a controller.
You can also pick the vocal range to give the algorithm a better starting point for the singer in question.
The plugin runs in two modes. Real Time mode has near-zero latency for tracking in the vocal booth, and HQ mode is meant for mixdown when you want maximum processing quality over speed.
Saint Mike DSP also mentions that it’s optimized for low CPU, which is useful if you’re correcting a dozen vocal layers in the same session. It worked without issues on my M1 MacBook Air.
Nothing here is a shock compared to what the paid competition offers or even what a few existing free autotune plugins already do, but the combination of Speed, Transition, Humanize, and Color on a clean interface makes PitchCure feel more flexible than some other freebies.
It’s definitely worth a look if you’re putting together a vocal chain.
PitchCure is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS 11 and higher (Intel and Apple Silicon native), and in VST3 and AAX for Windows 10/11 (64-bit).
