Ocean Swift has re-released Part 2 of its Legacy Synthesizers collection, offering a fresh round of free virtual instruments for Windows users.
These plugins, originally made available for free in 2021, are now updated with VST3 support and bundled with all original presets and bonus content.
This is the second wave in the developer’s legacy re-release initiative (the first was in March this year), which aims to preserve Ocean Swift’s synth catalog after a lengthy hiatus.
The developer’s website and product infrastructure have also been overhauled, making their products, both free and paid, more accessible and slightly more future-proof.
Among the freshly updated releases are Polyphenom 1 and 2, Defiant WT, QuirQuiQ, and Wavetabler, plus a Kontakt-based Shruti Box instrument.
If you’ve followed Ocean Swift’s work in the past, these names will be familiar. For new users, there’s a chance to pick up some unique, often experimental plugins that take sound design in interesting directions.
Polyphenom 2, for example, blends additive, subtractive, and FM synthesis in a way that I found super fun for sound design experimentation.
Its mixer-like GUI and layered harmonic engine let you quickly sculpt interesting textures. I like how intuitive it is for dialing in strange, evolving tones without getting bogged down in technical details.
Defiant WT is another standout. It’s a compact hybrid synth with wavetable, additive, and subtractive modes.
Despite the modest footprint, it includes custom wavetable import, a flexible modulation system, and a large collection of factory sounds. It’s one of those synths that you should pick up if you’re bored with classic FM and subtractive setups.
Then there’s QuirQuiQ, a tiny kick synth that’s worth a look for electronic and experimental producers who need a tool to generate unique bass hits. The minimal interface and low CPU usage make it ideal for layering on top of standard kick drums.
The release also includes the Shruti Box (Kontakt 6+ required), a recreation of the Indian drone instrument, and Wavetabler, which explores Ocean Swift’s early experiments with wavetable synthesis.
As with the previous batch, these plugins are Windows-only and provided as-is, with no ongoing support. The new VST3 versions function identically to their original VST2 counterparts.
You can download the entire Ocean Swift Legacy collection from their website by entering your name and email address. You’ll also find free sample packs, wavetable collections, and other soundware worth checking out while you’re there.
All plugins are available in 32-bit and 64-bit VST formats for Windows.
