Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney has hit back at Tory Lanez’s camp after the release of some new witness audio.
More than two years after Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan, his legal team shared police audio that purportedly supports his innocence.
As pointed out by TMZ, the recording features the voice of Sean Kelly, a Los Angeles eyewitness who told police he thought a woman opened fire on the night of the 2020 shooting. Lanez’s attorney argued that Kelly’s account aligned with Lanez’s claim that it was Megan’s former friend Kelsey Harris who shot Megan in the foot. However, Megan’s lawyer, Alex Shapiro, dismissed the audio.
“Last week, they argued that Kelsey Harris shot Megan and now, they’re claiming that Megan only stepped on glass,” Shapiro told Complex via email. “They continue to rehash old evidence from trial and re-package it as new information to desperately sway public opinion. There was no new evidence displayed today — simply a sad attempt from Tory’s team to copy our presentation format to peddle misinformation.”
The Kelly audio was also posted on 360hourslater.com, a website that features video and transcripts related to the shooting case. The site also points to Megan’s initial comments to law enforcement and her claim that she injured her foot by stepping on glass. Megan later explained she downplayed her injuries to protect herself and others around her.
“At this time, we were at the height of police brutality and the situation with George Floyd,” Megan said, admitting she was afraid responding officers would “shoot first” and ask questions later. “I don’t wanna see anybody die, I don’t wanna die… In the Black community, in my community, it’s not really accepted to cooperate with police.”
Lanez was ultimately found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He received a 10-year prison sentence in August 2023.

Since then, several high-profile figures have called for his freedom, including GOP congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna. The Florida Representative claimed Lanez’s conviction “was based on flawed evidence, political pressure, and prosecutorial bias” and that “justice must be blind— not driven by headlines.” She’s also urged California Gov. Gavin Newsom to review the case and pardon Lanez.
Shapiro slammed Rep. Luna’s efforts, saying they underscored her misguided priorities.
“It’s embarrassing that Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna is integrating herself into the California criminal justice system for click-bait,” he told Complex. “Instead, she should be focused on serving her own constituents in Florida rather than chasing celebrities.”
Lanez was transferred to another prison this month after being stabbed by a fellow inmate. The 32-year-old rapper was previously serving time at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, California, and is now being held at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, California.
Lanez’s accused stabber, Santino Casio, spoke about the incident in an interview with TMZ, insisting it was a preemptive attack. Casio told the outlet he heard rumors that Lanez had “put money [a bounty] on his head,” which is why he went into fight mode when he saw Lanez with what he believed to be a weapon in his pocket. The inmate allegedly stabbed Lanez in the head, torso, and back, leaving the rapper with 14 stab wounds.
Casio told the outlet he wasn’t trying to kill Lanez, but felt he had to protect himself in the moment. Casio said he was also stabbed during the attack.
Lanez was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
