Mariah Carey is explaining how a quick fix kept her headlining set at Brighton Pride running smoothly.
The Grammy winner performed at the U.K. festival on Aug. 2, then described a mid-show hiccup during an Aug. 6 appearance on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.
Carey said she’d put in “a lot” of rehearsal time before hitting the stage, but an outfit issue popped up mid-performance and had to be handled on the fly. “It was a lot of rehearsing and then we had a wardrobe malfunction, which was kind of not cool,” she told the hosts.
Without specifying which look was involved, Carey added, “It was right in the front area. I saved it, nobody saw it. Otherwise, it would’ve been talked about.”
The singer explained that her solution was swift and straightforward: “I turned around and walked through the dancers,” she said, adding, “I was so mad.” The moment didn’t derail the show, and Carey continued the set without further incident.
Fashion played a significant role in her most recent appearance. Mariah Carey cycled through multiple stage looks at Brighton Pride, including two sparkly, low-cut ombré bodycon dresses paired with thigh-high silver boots.
One of those ensembles featured a crystallized jacket emblazoned with the phrase “Protect the Dolls.” She also wore a gold cowl-neck mini dress with matching boots, and later, an elegant black slip dress with glitter platform heels.
After the performance, Carey posted a highlight reel to Instagram, calling the night “An unforgettable night.” The Brighton Pride booking marked another festival headliner for the 56-year-old mother of two, whose catalog includes hits like “Obsessed.”
On that same show, Carey detailed how she “embarrasses her kids,” talking candidly about the viral moment she landed on her son, Moroccan’s, live Twitch stream.
“There was a whole thing where my son [Moroccan] was on Twitch, and I walked into the room with my daughter, and we were just like, you know, saying hi, whatever,” Carey said.
“The video from this thing kind of, like, took off because everybody was like, ‘Oh, she’s embarrassing her kids,'” she added.
