KV331 Audio has made SynthMaster One free until January 4th (and you can, of course, keep your free license afterwards).
The popular wavetable synth is yet another fantastic Christmas giveaway we’ve seen this month, following the freebies from Soundtoys, Universal Audio, iZotope, and others.
SynthMaster One typically costs $49 (and often sells for around $25 on sale), so this is a genuinely solid freebie rather than a “lite” version or a demo. You get the full instrument with all features unlocked, which is great news if you’ve been curious about SynthMaster but never quite pulled the trigger.
If you already played SynthMaster One, you’ll know it’s designed to be approachable without feeling stripped down. It shares the same core engine as the full SynthMaster, but focuses on a cleaner interface and a faster workflow, with wavetable synthesis at the heart of the sound engine (but without the advanced synthesis control parameters).
I’ve always felt that SynthMaster One strikes a nice balance between sonic depth and immediacy, especially compared to some wavetable synths that can feel overwhelming at first glance. If you want complex synth sounds without the complex workflow, this one is easily one of the best options out there.
One of the highlights is the factory content. Version 1.3 expanded the preset library to a hefty 1,250 presets, including 200 newer additions from designers like BT (Brian Transeau), Kurt Ader, and Luke Neptune.
Whether you’re into modern EDM, cinematic textures, or classic synth sounds, there’s plenty here to get started without immediately diving into sound design.
If we look under the hood (which really isn’t the main point here, but still…), SynthMaster One offers two stereo oscillators with unison (up to 16 voices), a proper wavetable engine with drag-and-drop import, dual filters using zero-delay feedback technology, and a semi-modular architecture that encourages experimentation.
You also get a 16-step arpeggiator/sequencer, microtuning with Scala support, and a generous effects section covering everything from distortion and chorus to reverb and vocoder.
Recent updates also added some nice quality-of-life features, like cloud-based preset synchronization across devices, new envelope models inspired by classic analog synths, improved microtuning tools, and better preset management options.

One important thing to note: you’ll need a KV331 Audio account, and online activation is required during registration. Existing SynthMaster One users aren’t left out either, with KV331 Audio offering credit coupons that can be used on expansion packs or bundle upgrades.
SynthMaster One runs as a plugin and standalone instrument on Windows and macOS, with VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats supported (AAX requires Pro Tools 11 or newer). macOS versions support both Intel and Apple Silicon.
