The artist formerly known as Kanye West, who recently featured Saint West on the cover art for Bully and cited him as an inspiration for elements of its concept, has shared another story about his and Kim Kardashian’s eldest son.
In a post shared to X early Tuesday morning, Ye recalled a remark Saint (allegedly) made to Tyler, The Creator at a Christmas party hosted by the Kardashians. The timing of the alleged remark wasn’t immediately clear, nor was any additional context provided.
“At the Kardashian Christmas party, Saint told Tyler, The Creator ‘my dad is better than you,’” Ye wrote on X in all-caps update.
While Ye did not elaborate further, it’s hard not to connect this latest remark to other recent Tyler-focused ones. In March, Ye attempted to argue that Tyler, whom he once credited as being crucial to the development of his classic Yeezus album, “has never made a memorable song.” He also asserted that Tyler’s “last album,” presumably the universally acclaimed Chromakopia, “ripped off my whole language.”
More recently, Ye referred to Tyler and Kendrick Lamar as “the two most overrated so-called artists.” As was the case with the inclusion of Tyler, Ye’s shift toward criticizing Kendrick’s work stands in contrast with positive remarks he’s made in the past.
Such talk, of course, has been developing at a sporadic clip amid ongoing Nazi nonsense and other instances of designed-to-shock social media behavior. At times, Ye has appeared to lean into the latter in a way that might suggest his use of associated symbols and various examples of hate speech is, at least on some level, unfortunately sincere. Along the way, however, he has also signaled, albeit convolutedly, that all of this is intended as either performance art or a revenge-minded “gimmick,” or some combination of both.
