Insight 2 is a comprehensive metering and audio analysis plugin for macOS and Windows, and it’s available for free until December 31 at Plugin Boutique.
The plugin is available in AU, VST2, VST3, and AAX formats (VST2 is only available in DAWs/NLEs opened in Rosetta on Apple Silicon Macs)
Insight 2 comprises various metering modules that you can use individually or simultaneously.
The featured modules are Loudness, Levels, Sound Field, Spectrum, Spectrogram, and History.
The modules provide extensive visualization of your audio for music and post, whether you’re mixing or mastering a pop track or creating the perfect balance for film audio.
If you’re focusing on general music mixing and mastering, the customizable GUI offers a range of arrangement presets to suit common use cases.
A good loudness meter is often overlooked but can be an invaluable tool. If you don’t have something like the Youlean Lodness Meter, Insight 2 is an excellent freebie.
The Loudness module displays short-term, integrated, and momentary LUFS (loudness units full scale). This module lets you set specific targets, such as popular streaming platforms, and ensure your audio is at the optimal level.
It also makes it easy to achieve consistency from one track to the next in an album by closely matching the perceived loudness.
The Sound Field module is another very handy tool that lets you identify and fix mono phase compatibility problems.
The highly detailed 2D/3D Spectrogram with Freeze and Zoom modes provides a complete topographical visualization of your mix.
Insight 2 has been around for a few years, and it’s still an excellent one-stop shop for ensuring your audio performs as it should across any platform, in line with current loudness standards.
If you’re working on dialogue, Insight 2’s Intelligibility Meter provides information on how the audience is likely to experience it, helping ensure it sits well within the mix.
