Inlet Audio has released ANIMATE and SPHERE, two free sample libraries for Native Instruments Kontakt (they also require the Pulse Downloader), aimed at composers and producers who enjoy atmospheric, organic, and cinematic textures.
Before getting into the sounds, there’s one important thing to mention upfront: both libraries require the full version of Kontakt (6.8.0 or newer), not the free Kontakt Player, and you’ll also need the free Pulse Downloader app to install them.
If you already own Kontakt and don’t mind Pulse Downloader, though, these are absolutely worth a look.
I spent some time with both libraries, and the overall sound quality is impressive. Inlet Audio focuses on inspiration, mood, and texture rather than traditional playable instruments, and that works really well here.
If you like evolving, organic soundscapes and subtle cinematic layers, there’s a lot to explore in these two freebies.
ANIMATE leans into soft and moody spectral textures. The source material comes from intimate violin techniques recorded on a large scoring stage at LA’s Silent Zoo Studios, with bonus recordings creatively manipulated into new textures.
The result feels fragile and atmospheric. It’s perfect for understated film cues or ambient compositions. You get five core sounds, ten presets, and there’s a lot of space to shape slow-moving textures that sit nicely behind other elements.
SPHERE takes a slightly broader approach. It blends sounds from clarinet, guitar, strings, and synths into moody textures. I like how quickly SPHERE provides a starting point for cinematic work, and it really feels like an inspiration toolkit that you can further build upon with other instrument layers.
Another thing I enjoy is the interface design. Feature-wise, these are fairly minimal instruments, but they look great. For me, the way an instrument looks does matter, and Inlet Audio’s minimal but heavily colored interfaces look super inviting.
My only real gripe isn’t with the libraries themselves, but with the website. The design is clearly intentional and artistic, but as a website visitor, I found it way too chaotic.
When I’m checking out a product, I want to quickly learn what it does, hear some audio previews, and download it. A simpler product page would make the experience much smoother and more informative.
That said, once you’re past that hurdle (and it’s just my taste – I’m sure many visitors will enjoy the website), both ANIMATE and SPHERE are excellent free additions if you own Kontakt and enjoy organic, cinematic textures.
ANIMATE and SPHERE are available for macOS and Windows, require the full version of Kontakt 6.8.0 or later, and are installed via the free Pulse Downloader app.
