One of the attorneys who represented Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs throughout his federal trial on sex trafficking and prostitution charges, in which he was only found guilty of the latter, said that he firmly believes the disgraced music mogul and Cassie Ventura loved each other.
In an interview with Jericka Duncan for CBS Mornings, Diddy’s lead attorney Marc Agnifilo was asked to expand upon his comments during the trial when he called the former couple’s relationship “a great modern love story.” He said this despite Cassie testifying against Diddy, accusing the Bad Boy Records founder of rape, physical abuse, and coercing her into taking illegal drugs that she developed a dependency on.
“The rape we vehemently deny,” he said, as seen in a clip from the interview above. “And I respect that she said that. I don’t think the jury concluded that that happened. In terms of the, you know, the drugs and the other stuff … that’s what makes it a modern love story. I think they really did love each other. I think she very much loved him and I know he very much loved her. I mean, these are two people who hurt each other, loved each other, cheated on each other.”
Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, hit back against the way Agnifilo described the relationship and said his comments were a “complete disgrace and affront” to any survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Elsewhere in the interview, Agnifilo reiterated his belief that Diddy is innocent and said again that he’s not spoken to anyone about seeking a possible pardon from President Trump. “I have had conversations with nobody,” he said when asked about a pardon. “I have not spoken to the president. I have not spoken to anybody who speaks to the president about Sean Combs. I have not.”
Agnifilo hasn’t spoken with Diddy about the possibility of a pardon, either, but said he told him that the subject was in the news. “He says, ‘Go tell him (Mr. Trump) that I need a pardon,'” Agnofilo said. “‘Go tell him I deserve a pardon.’ That’s what he said.”
In a recent interview with Newsmax, the president indicated that he was on the fence about giving Diddy a pardon. “He was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent,” said Trump. “He was celebrating a victory, but I guess it wasn’t as good of a victory.” Another one of Diddy’s attorneys, Nicole Westmoreland, later revealed that Diddy’s team has “reached out” to the Trump administration about a pardon.
Agnifilo added in the interview that Diddy has plans to throw a comeback show when he’s released, and that he hopes to return to making music, too. “He’s going to be back at Madison Square Garden,” Agnifilo said. “And I said I’ll be there.”
