Eminem‘s daughter Hailie Jade McClintock, who recently became a mother for the first time, has said she now understands why her father has been so protective of their family’s privacy.
The 29-year-old podcaster, who launches the four-part special Just a Little Reno on Friday (June 27), spoke to People about her realizations as a new mom and how it connects to being raised by the 15-time Grammy winner. In March, McClintock and her husband, Evan McClintock, welcomed their first child, a son Elliot Marshall McClintock.
“Having been in the spotlight for so long, I’ve learned the importance of balancing what I share publicly with what I keep private,” Hailie explained.
“Over time, I’ve come to understand the struggle my father faced — wanting to protect our privacy while also feeling proud and wanting to celebrate his kids.”

McClintock has been a constant presence in Eminem’s songs and videos over the years. Home footage of Em’s daughter features in the 2004 music video for “Mockingbird,” and, more recently, she appeared (alongside home footage) in the video for “Temporary.” Still, Eminem, who has had his share of stalkers, is careful not to overshare his family’s personal life, which Hailie can attest to.
“I feel the same way now,” she continued. “I want to share the proud, joyful moments that mean a lot to me, especially as a parent, but I’m also intentional about keeping certain parts of our lives just for us.”
After recently celebrating her first Mother’s Day, the podcaster is still “finding that balance between openness and privacy.” “And that balance has become even more important to me as I navigate parenthood,” she continued.
The father and daughter gave a peek into their close relationship in the “Temporary” video, where Hailie surprised Eminem with news that he would soon have a grandson. Hailie is Eminem’s only biological child with ex-wife Kim Scott, although he adopted her other children, Alaina Marie, 32, and Stevie Lane, 23.
