GForce Software has announced the release of the final Mellotron expansion pack created in collaboration with Streetly Electronics. The Streetly Tapes – London for M-Tron Pro IV is a fitting finale to GForce’s journey through the world’s richest original Mellotron tape archive.
Over the years, both ourselves and Streetly have been asked by original Tron owners why their tapes have a distinct, unmistakable character—one that doesn’t quite match the sound of the EMI tape-based Streetly recordings. They also point out that certain classic albums carry this same elusive tone. The answer lies in a fascinating quirk of history.
In the early 1970s, while M400 production was in full swing at Streetly Electronics, the Mellotronics office in London decided to produce their own tapes instead of sourcing them from Streetly. However, a small planning error resulted in the tape-head azimuth being subtly misaligned during recording. This created a set of ‘London Tapes’ with a truly unique tone, one that has become legendary among Mellotron enthusiasts.
This final Streetly Tapes volume brings you fifteen iconic Tron tape banks, each recorded with that distinct London tape-head azimuth. In addition, we’ve included 20 super-rare tape banks from the last of the remaining Streetly Archives. Together, this gives M-Tron Pro IV customers a total of 35 tape banks from the original and most authentic Mellotron library in existence.
The Streetly Tapes – London is available for purchase for £49.99 GBP + VAT, with an introductory price of £24.99 GBP + VAT offered until end of June. The new expansion is also part of the M-Tron Pro – Complete bundle, which includes the M-Tron Pro IV and all the expansion packs.
