The Sean “Diddy” Combs trial took a bit of a turn on June 30 when the jury sent a note to the judge during deliberations. According to TMZ, Judge Arun Subramanian addressed the note in court about one hour into deliberations.
“We have received a note from the jury,” Subramanian said before reading the note aloud.
“We have a juror, Juror 25, who we believe cannot follow your honor’s instructions,” it read.
Subramanian sent a note back to the jury reminding them of their responsibility in the case and instructed the group to continue deliberations. Further details about Juror 25’s stance on the charges weren’t made available.
TMZ confirmed that Juror 25 is a “51-year-old gay white man with a Ph.D. in molecular biology who’s studied veterinary science.”
Diddy is facing a variety of charges relating to accusations that he was involved in a criminal sex trafficking operation, according to USA Today. These charges include two counts of sex trafficking, two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and one count of racketeering — the latter of which carries a potential life sentence if the rapper is found guilty by the jury.
Diddy was arrested in September 2024 and has remained in custody at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center ever since.
Meanwhile, one juror assigned to the case was dismissed early on, according to NBC News. The outlet reports that the unnamed juror’s place of residence was unclear so that juror was replaced.
It’s unknown how long deliberations will take, but all the jurors must agree on the verdict. If they are unable to do so, the hung jury will cause a mistrial.
