Dame Dash has teamed up with his girlfriend in an attempt to get out of paying an $800,000 court judgment, filmmaker Josh Webber claims.
Webber, who successfully sued Dash for defamation following a dispute over the movie Dear Frank, has been fighting to collect his money since the judgment was rendered in April 2022.
In June, a judge ordered Dash to turn over films, music, and other assets to the court so they could be auctioned off. Earlier this month, Dash gave up two of his movies, but that only took care of part of the judgment.
In a court document filed on Monday (Aug. 18), Webber claimed that Dash is attempting to hide his assets with the help of his girlfriend Raquel Horn in an attempt to avoid turning them over.
Webber claimed, with proof in the form of LLC records, that Dash and Horn have been merging and renaming Dash’s businesses in an attempt to keep them out of Webber’s hands—moves the filmmaker referred to as “noncompliance” and “willful deceptiveness.”
Webber actually may have some backup for his claims from Dash himself. In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, the mogul admitted to being very careful about which of his assets are in his name.
“I run my family office. I don’t own it. My family owns it,” he explained. “I don’t have too much in my name. So the things that are in my name are things that I don’t even know that exist, that don’t make money. They’re from years ago.”
Dash was found guilty of defaming Webber by claiming that the filmmaker “robbed” him of ownership of and credit for Dear Frank. Those comments, Webber said, damaged his reputation and resulted in threats against him.
