Cory Booker says he once went on “sort of a blind date” with none other than Mariah Carey.
In a recent interview with @thembitv_ for Stepping Into the Shade Room, the New Jersey senator was asked to reveal a celebrity he’s dated or at least go on a single date with, prompting him to reflect on the “experience” of his and Mariah’s would-be romance.
“This is gonna make some news, I guess, but years ago, I was set up on sort of a blind date with Mariah Carey,” Booker said, much to the host’s initial shock.
According to Booker, the lone date was a memorable one, albeit without any “love match” signs.
“It was one of those times where you just know you’re in the presence of somebody that has a grandeur about them,” he said. “And I’m not talking about her talent. But she just has this light. We laughed and had a good time. It was clearly not a love match.”

Booker went on to call the blind date “wonderful,” reflecting on first only knowing Mariah “from afar” until having the opportunity to open up to her.
“She’s just a good human being,” Booker said before further revealing that he recently took his mother and his current girlfriend to see Mariah perform in Las Vegas.
In the years since this alleged blind date, Booker said, he’s bumped into Mariah several times, describing her as always “gracious and kind” to him. He closed out his Mariah memories rundown with a playful urging to the 2025 BET Awards performer to not deny that they once went on a date.
“There were witnesses,” he joked. “Don’t deny me, Mariah. Don’t deny me now.”
The reveal of this alleged blind date is well-timed, as Mariah is currently mere hours away from rolling out the video for her recently released new single “Type Dangerous.” See a preview below.
