Brooklyn rapper CoachDaGhost has been sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for a fatal shooting four years ago.
NBC New York reports that 31-year-old CoachDaGhost, who’s real name is Culture Bermudez, was sentenced along with 30-year-old Naquan Pruitt for the ambush shooting that killed a 17-year-old, Bryan Sanon, and injured two other people in 2021. Bermudez received 60 years to life in prison while Pruitt received 25 years to life in prison earlier this month.
District Attorney Gonzalez released a statement about the sentences. “Bryan Sanon was just 17 years old, with his whole life ahead of him, when he was ambushed and killed in a calculated act of gang violence that also left two other young men seriously wounded,” said Gonzalez.
“These lengthy sentences reflect the severity of this horrific crime and make clear that we will not allow violent gang rivalries to endanger lives and destabilize our communities,” he added. “My office remains firmly committed to protecting the people of Brooklyn by holding those who carry out this kind of senseless violence fully accountable.”
The District Attorney also explained what happened based on the evidence, saying that Bermudez and Pruitt, who were members of the Choo gang, were “spinning” in Woo gang territory while “hunting” for rivals in March 2021, when they saw Sanon and two other rivals, jumped out of the car, and opened fire—hitting all three victims.
The 19-year-old was shot in both legs and the 20-year-old was shot in the face. Bermudez was arrested in Georgia in 2021 and Pruitt was arrested in Pennsylvania in May 2021 following an investigation into the shooting.
CoachDaGhost hit the music scene in 2020 with his viral song “Hit List,” the video for which notched 6.8 million views on YouTube.
