Filtre by Cloudy Samples is a contour filter and modulation engine for macOS and Windows, and you can download it for free now.
I’m not certain Filtre will always be free, so it’s best to grab it quickly, just in case.
In short, Filtre is a hub for shaping sound, creating texture, and adding movement.
The plugin (AU and VST3 formats for macOS and Windows) has two main sections: the contour filter panel and the triple LFO modulation engine.
The multi-mode contour filter section offers a pretty hefty sixteen modes, covering most applications.
The filter modes include basics like 1-pole LP, more surgical options like Biquad and SVP Notch, and distinct sound-design options like Ring Modulation.
You also have a vintage Moog ladder filter emulation for that classic, creamy, analogue-style warmth.
Along with the Mode selector, you have controls for Frequency, Gain, Resonance, Volume, Balance, and Width.
As broad as the filter section is, the triple LFO engine is where Filtre comes to life.
You have separate panels for Frequency Modulation, Volume Modulation, and Balance Modulation.
The modulation engine offers a variety of waveforms, including Sine, Triangle, Square, Saw, Random, and Step.
But one of the coolest things about the modulation engine is that each of the three independent LFOs has a dedicated custom waveform window, allowing you to draw unique shapes.
You can create texture by modulating the filter frequency and volume, and add more distinct movement by modulating the panning (Balance).
As a free tool, Filtre ticks a lot of boxes, so, as I said above, grab it while you can.
On the topic of filters, you can still get 73% off Soundtoys FilterFreak at Plugin Boutique for a few more days (the offer ends on April 28, 2026).
Plugin Boutique has some great offers available right now; it’s worth a look.
