Cam’ron and Mase reacted to the artist formerly known as Kanye West claiming that he performed oral sex on his cousin when they were children on a snippet of his new song titled “COUSINS.”
Right at the start of the latest of It Is What It Is episode, Mase cracked a joke about Ye previously naming him as one of his favorite rappers. “It’s been a freaky week,” he laughed. “I don’t know if I want to be top five anymore, you know? The way things are going on out here.” Mase recently took a few episodes off from the podcast, and Treasure ‘Stat’ Wilson asked him what he thought the “craziest” story was in his absence.
“The Kanye one was crazy,” he said. “I don’t even know what to say. Some things you just got to stay out of… pause. You got to stay out of that one.” Cam chimed in to say that he hadn’t heard about Ye’s admission, so Wilson spoke about what he tweeted and sang about in the song preview while Mase covered his ears. When told about the situation, Cam responded, “N***as be conveniently gay.”
Cam stressed that he’s not homophobic, but questioned the timing of Ye’s confession.
“I respect the gay people that say they gay,” he said. “Come out and say that you gay if that’s what you doing, cool. Kanye been in the public eye for at least going on 20 years, if not longer… And now you gay? Or have gay acts or whatever the point be? Shit ain’t working. Everything he got going on ain’t seem to be working. He had swastikas. He’s Hitler last month… then he was a KKK n***a about three weeks ago. Now he molested his cousin, he going to do a song about it. It’s just too convenient.”
It’s worth noting that Ye did not come out as gay, he just reflected on having a sexual relationship with his cousin when the two were children after finding adult magazines and copying the contents.
Cam said that Ye’s recent behavior makes it hard to understand why he’s talking about this alleged interaction with his cousin now. “I haven’t been around him years… But he’s a regular guy that wanted to rap and did hot beats,” he said. “I remember Dame talking about, ‘Cam, you know he’s bipolar? He don’t be taking his medicine.’ I never knew this, I’m not saying he is [or isn’t], I’m not playing with people who are bipolar, I get it. I just never seen none of this shit.”
Mase said that he’s gonna “pray” for Ye, but he’s left speechless by the situation in general. “That person is not my son,” he laughed. Cam then started to talk about the city of Chicago and his love for it, but questioned the behavior surrounding the city’s two biggest stars, Ye and R. Kelly.
“I’m not saying nothing about the city of Chicago, but two of the biggest superstars ever, it’s some molestation, nasty, peeing on bitches… It’s a lot of shit going with two of the biggest superstars ever,” he said, referring to Kelly. “I don’t know what was going on up there like that… Y’all putting a stain on a good city.”
Mase said that he believes Ye is “going through a lot,” and hopes he can “find his way back” to some sense of normalcy. “You gotta have the right people around you,” he said. “‘Cause, when something like this comes out, I reached out to a few people that I know used to be close to him, but they’re no longer close to him. So, I don’t really know who’s around and I pray he make it back. … I wouldn’t do all of this to sell music. I definitely wouldn’t. I believe that’s what’s happening, but I wouldn’t do this to sell music.”
He described the situation as “sad,” to which Cam agreed and said he wants Ye to get help while acknowledging feels like he needs to “stop feeling sorry for n***as with money” because there are people struggling to pay rent. “Ye can get on a flight and go anywhere,” he said. “I’m not going to keep feeling sorry for n***as who can change their circumstances.”
Mase suggested that Ye needs to find someone to talk to, because whoever is around him right now isn’t helping. “I got a lot of love for Ye,” Mase concluded. Watch the full episode of the podcast above.
