Beatport bans fully AI-generated music with new detection tool

Beatport has expanded its partnership with Beatdapp to detect and block AI-generated music before it reaches the online store.

The policy itself is not new, as Beatport announced its stance on AI-generated music in January 2025, but the important change lies in how it’s enforced. Under the updated content guidelines, tracks identified as fully or majority AI-generated will be withheld during ingestion, and rightsholders will be notified directly.

Music made with AI assistance can still be accepted, as long as the finished track remains mostly human-made. Beatport says those releases will be tagged during ingestion, giving its curation team a clearer view of what it is reviewing and potentially featuring.

What’s important here is that Beatport is not saying producers can never use AI tools. The line is between AI as a tool in a human-led workflow and AI as the system that effectively generates the finished record.

That definitely leaves room for things like AI-assisted mixing, mastering, stem separation, and standard processing, while keeping fully synthetic catalog slop away from DJs.

Beatdapp is already known to Beatport users in a different context. The two companies partnered in 2024 on streaming fraud detection, and this expanded deal applies Beatdapp’s detection technology to AI music identification across Beatport’s catalog.

According to Beatport’s survey, 60% of users said they would not play AI-generated tracks in their sets. Beatport also says 77% cited a firm preference for supporting human creators, while only 8% said they are currently open to playing AI-generated music. Another 13% said they would consider it if artists and labels were fairly compensated.

Beatport CEO Matt Gralen clearly summed up the position, saying there is a difference between “a tool that assists human creation and a system that replaces it entirely.”

Other streaming platforms are also reacting to AI-generated music.

Deezer recently reported that fully AI-generated tracks exceeded 50% of its daily uploads at its peak in June 2026, reaching around 90,000 per day. Deezer also says those tracks still account for only 1% to 3% of streams, and that much of the activity around fully AI-generated uploads is linked to fraud.

Spotify is taking a somewhat different route. Starting in mid-September, it plans to label some artist profiles with an “AI Persona” badge when the public-facing artist identity appears to be AI-generated rather than a real person.

That is more about artist identity than audio detection, but it points in the same direction. Platforms are definitely being pushed to disclose information about AI music.

We’ve covered AI music from a few angles already, including AudioAuditor’s AI detection tools, AI music copyright questions, and our own AI music survey. The same issue keeps coming back. AI can be a useful production aid, but listeners, artists, and platforms still need to know what they are dealing with.

Unfortunately, the hard part is enforcement. AI-generated music is easier to spot when uploaded untouched, but detection gets messier once someone edits it, layers vocals, resamples it, or blends it into a larger production.

Beatport’s policy is a strong statement, but the detection system will have to keep improving as the tools on the other side improve too.
