Plugin Boutique is offering 87% off Solid State Logic’s SSL Native Channel Strip 2, bringing the price down from $149 to just $19. The important part is that the offer ends today, June 26th. If you have been waiting for a low price on a proper SSL channel strip plugin, this is the perfect opportunity to get it. SSL Native Channel Strip 2 is based on the processing blocks of SSL’s analog consoles, with the workflow and tone of the SSL 9000K channel strip. Sketch Audio has released Series 9000, a free low-pass filter and distortion plugin for macOS, Windows, and iOS. Series 9000 features a sixth-order low-pass filter based on a late-1980s rackmount sampler. The developer does not name the original unit, but I’m pretty sure that it emulates the Akai S900/S950 family. That is definitely a fun source to borrow from because those samplers were anything but clean. The 12-bit grit gets a lot of attention, of course, but the steep low-pass filter is a big part of why the S900 sounded so interesting. Series 9000 focuses on that filtering behavior and…

What core philosophy has stayed the same since the days of Symphobia or True Strike, and what has changed the most about your approach? What has remained constant since we started ProjectSAM in 2001 is our absolute focus on sound quality and articulations. Back then, industry-leading libraries were primarily recorded with close microphones, meaning you had to drench them in reverb to achieve a realistic orchestral sound. We felt differently. We believed capturing the natural acoustic perspective of an orchestra from a distance would create a much more convincing experience. We recorded a free proof of concept with local conservatory…

From developer Dusty Plugins comes Dusty Tube 2, a free guitar & bass amp sim for Windows. We covered the original Dusty Tube plugin in early 2025, and for anyone who missed it, it’s an amp simulator built on the Neural Amp Modeler (NAM). Dusty Tube 2, as you’d expect, is the same thing with some tweaks and enhancements. You might remember the original plugin being available for macOS and Windows, with Mac users experiencing various installation issues. This time around, Dusty Tube 2 is a Windows-exclusive plugin available in VST3 format. The Developer has upgraded Dusty Tube 2 to…

noshigeSound has released ENHANCER VINTAGE-73, a free one-knob high-shelf enhancer plugin for macOS and Windows. The plugin models the high-shelf section of a legendary British preamp EQ. noshigeSound does not name the original hardware directly, and I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but the Vintage-73 name and the description make the 1073-style reference pretty clear. ENHANCER VINTAGE-73 is truly a one-knob plugin. There’s just a single knob with no extra tone controls, drive switches, oversampling menus, or hidden mix sections that sometimes show up in other “one-knob plugins.” You turn the main knob from 0 to 100, and the modeled high-shelf circuit…

Darkpalace Studio has released PIRANHA, a multi-band waveshaper and clipper plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux. We’re taking a closer look below and giving away one free copy to one lucky BPB reader. You might remember Darkpalace Studio from CATERPILLAR, the free stereo enhancer we featured on BPB before. PIRANHA is a more aggressive tool than the freebie, and it’s built for everything from clean mastering-style clipping to much heavier distortion and sound design. PIRANHA lets you split the incoming signal into up to three independent frequency bands using adjustable crossovers. You can keep it simple as a single-band clipper, or…

Distortion Isn’t Always the Problem “More is not necessarily better. Better is better.” — Lee Child Sometimes distortion is the goal. A smashed drum room. A crunchy synth. An overloaded tape delay. A distorted bass. That kind of distortion can sound amazing. But when your entire mix sounds distorted and you didn’t mean it to… that’s usually not character. That’s a gain staging problem. Or a plugin problem. Or a master bus problem. Or all three. Quick Summary 👉 Mix distortion usually comes from clipping somewhere in the signal chain. Common causes include tracks hitting plugins too hard, output…

Jeesonic has released EQ Pro, a free dynamic equalizer plugin for macOS and Windows. EQ Pro is a surgical EQ with up to 24 dynamic bands, per-band stereo routing, selectable phase modes, and a real-time analyzer. That’s still crazy for a free plugin, if you ask me, even though I recently wrote that ZL Equalizer 2 and TDR Nova cover most mixing EQ tasks in 2026. EQ Pro definitely looks like another contender for the best free EQ discussion. As with most similar plugins, you’ll do most of the tweaking with the on-screen EQ curve. You can double-click to add…
