Feeling stuck in music production is incredibly common. Whether you’re a beginner building your first tracks or an experienced producer with years of projects behind you, creative blocks happen to everyone. One day ideas flow easily. The next day, everything sounds uninspiring. Loops feel repetitive, melodies feel forced, and finishing a track feels almost impossible. This isn’t a sign of lack of talent or creativity. It’s simply part of the creative process. Music production sits at the intersection of technical skill and artistic expression. That combination means your mindset plays just as much of a role as your tools or…
Analog Obsession has released RazorClip, a free analog-based clipper plugin for Mac and Windows. RazorClip offers five clipping modes, each modeled after a different analog circuit type. That’s really the core of what RazorClip offers, and the modes give you various distortion characters to work with. The five options are Tape, XFMR, BJT, Tube, and Diode. By the way, if you’re into saturation, the Tape, Tube, and Diode are also available in our free BPB Saturator Plus plugin if you don’t already have it in your toolkit. As for the other two modes, they are both fun to use, and…
voidDSP has released Echo1, a free modulated stereo delay plugin for Mac and Windows. Echo1 has two independent delay lines, each with its own speed control. The Sync button locks both lines to the left slider value, which is handy when you don’t need the more complex interactions you get from running the two lines independently. But I think this one really shines when you start having fun with stereo delays. It’s super easy to set up, and I highly recommend giving the stereo mode a try on arpeggiated synths. Also, Echo1 goes beyond a basic delay with the additional…
Sender Spike has released qb (Kyubi), a free multimode distortion plugin for Windows. If you’re familiar with the name Sender Spike, that’s likely because we recently featured the developer’s SN Zero hybrid synthesizer. That one is a fun FM vector hybrid synth with a clean interface and a nice sample loading feature. Well worth checking out if you missed it. Interestingly, Kyubi came about while the developer was working on SN Zero. The question was whether to include an effects section in the synth, but the developer ultimately decided against it. Kyubi was the first candidate that came out of…
Inear Display has made its creative audio tools now available via pay-what-you-want (meaning they can be yours for free). Inear Display has moved all of its products into the pay-what-you-want category. The developer has suggested a fair price for each of the eleven available products, to support future development, but any value of $0 or above will be accepted. The following plugins are available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS (10.13 upwards) and Windows (10 upwards): Ephemere – glitchy FM drum synth Amalgame – multi-fx plugin Litote – granulator effect Lancinantes – drone synth Gorgon – aggressive distortion plugin…
This Debate Won’t Die Analog vs Digital. Warm vs Clean. Real vs Artificial. Vintage vs Modern. It’s one of the longest-running arguments in music production. But most of the debate misses the point. The real difference isn’t about “better.” It’s about how sound is generated and controlled. Quick Summary 👉 Analog audio uses continuously varying electrical signals, while digital audio converts sound into numerical data. Analog often introduces natural coloration and nonlinear behavior, while digital offers precision, recall, and flexibility. Analog = Continuous Motion Analog sound is electricity moving in a smooth, continuous wave. No steps. No…
A pro guide for adding riffs to your beats. From classic sampled funk loops to modern melodic hooks a la Post Malone or Playboi Carti, a guitar can add emotion and melody to any sample-based track. In this article, we show you exactly how it’s done, with examples of riffs that have shaped the genre’s most recognizable songs. Using a guitar in a hip-hop session can add melody and warmth to your recordings. Dial in Your Amp Tone Getting the right base tone is essential when using guitar in hip-hop production. Amp emulator plug-ins like those found in…
No amp? No worries. This is how to get incredible guitar tones right in your DAW. Guitarists are known for chasing tone. And for good reason. In a live or studio environment, choosing the right effects and amplifier can mean the difference between a solo sitting perfectly in a mix, or getting lost behind other instruments. Some players are wary of digital emulations and plug-ins. But even old school purists and session pros are discovering that amazing sounds can be achieved without amplifiers. So we put together a guide detailing what you need to know about tracking guitar using just…

Cinematic soundscapes are designed to create emotion, atmosphere and immersion. Unlike traditional songs that rely heavily on melody and rhythm, soundscapes focus on texture, space and movement to shape how a listener feels. In film, TV and game music, soundscapes are used to build tension, signal mood and support storytelling. But these techniques aren’t limited to visual media. Many electronic, ambient and experimental producers use cinematic sound design to add depth and emotion to their tracks. What makes a soundscape feel cinematic is often subtle. It’s the sense of scale created by reverb, the gradual evolution of sounds, and the…
