Atlanta rapper Cash Out has been found guilty of the majority of counts, including many of the most serious ones, in his state sex trafficking trial.
Atlanta News First reports that the Fulton County jury in the case reached a verdict on Friday (July 18). They determined that the rapper, born John Michael Gibson, was guilty of racketeering, rape, pimping, aggravated sodomy, and two counts of sex trafficking.
He was found not guilty on a third count of sex trafficking, as well as sexual servitude, aggravated assault, and place of prostitution.
Cash Out’s mother, Linda Smith, was also charged in the case. She was found guilty of racketeering and one count of trafficking. A third co-defendant, Tyrone Taylor, was found guilty on all charges against him, except one of pimping.
The three were accused of using their record company to lure women into prostitution. One woman testified that she was only given food if she had sex with men for money.
During the trial, Cash Out was accused of attempting to silence a witness, with help from Smith. The witness, a woman, was reportedly pressured not to cooperate with authorities.
Jurors were shown a 2021 interrogation video of Smith, recorded after she was taken into custody at a physical therapy clinic. In the footage, she denies any wrongdoing, claiming she was at the facility to look for a friend who had missed a probation appointment.
Prosecutors also played a series of jail phone calls in which Cash Out can allegedly be heard instructing Smith to locate the woman.
“I mean, y’all acting like I done kidnapped her,” Smith reportedly said during the questioning.
Sentencing in Cash Out’s case is scheduled to take place on Monday (July 21).
