Acon Digital is offering Limit, a transparent limiter plugin for Windows and macOS, free of charge until March 1st.
This is a time-limited promotion, so anyone interested can download and activate the plugin at no cost before the deadline. After March 1st, Limit will return to its regular status as part of Acon Digital’s premium Mastering Suite.
Getting it is easy, but it takes one extra step after the download. First, you visit the product page and click the download link to grab the installer. Once installed, open the plugin in your DAW and click the Redeem button that appears in the interface. You’ll then be redirected to the Acon Digital website, where you can log in or create a free user account.
After logging in, you’ll receive a license that you can use to activate the plugin. The process requires online activation, so make sure you have an internet connection when redeeming the license.
Limit is designed as a transparent two-stage limiter for mixing and mastering. The goal is simple. It lets you increase perceived loudness while preventing clipping, all without altering the tone or stereo image of your audio.
The processing is split into two parts. First, there’s a pre-compressor stage that manages incoming peaks before they reach the limiting stage. This helps reduce the likelihood of distortion by smoothing out excessive transients.
The second stage is a brickwall peak limiter that ensures no signal passes above the internal ceiling.
Instead of adjusting a traditional threshold control, you raise the Input gain (up to +32 dB) to drive the signal into the limiter. As the level exceeds the internal 0 dB threshold, gain reduction is applied. The Output control lets you compensate for level changes after processing.
You also get control over Attack and Release times, with recommended starting points for mastering (around 40 ms attack and 150 ms release). The included Auto-Release mode can dynamically adjust release behavior based on the material.
I also like how the separate channel linking controls for the pre-compressor and peak suppression stages allow you to fine-tune stereo behavior, from fully linked to fully independent operation.
A look-ahead function (up to 15 ms) improves transparency at the cost of added latency, which most modern DAWs will compensate for automatically. Oversampling options up to 4x are included for improved accuracy and reduced distortion, especially when aiming for true peak limiting.
Limit is available in AU, VST, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows. If you want a clean, no-frills limiter, you can download it for free until March 1st.
