OTODESK has released Quad Morph Filter, a free and open-source VST3 filter plugin for Windows.
Quad Morph Filter is built for real-time sound design instead of the more static tone shaping we typically use filters for. It lets you morph between up to four different filter models using an XY pad, with equal-power blending and several alternate morphing curves.
If you’ve been reading BPB for some time, you probably know how much I love filters. And this one is an absolute blast, with 28 filter models, covering familiar analog-style options like Moog Ladder, TB-303 Diode, SEM, MS-20 Screaming, CS-80, Prophet CEM3320, Oberheim SSM 2040, and Roland Jupiter-inspired filters.
It also goes into more experimental territory with options like Formant, Comb Filter, Wavefolder, FDN Reverb, Bode Frequency Shifter, Z-Plane 2D Morph, Phased Array, Modal Resonator, Waveguide Mesh, and several digital precision filter types.
That’s a lot of filters, but the main idea behind this plugin is easy to understand. You load different filter types into four slots, then move around the XY pad to blend between them in real time and find your perfect combo.
There are four morphing modes. Equal Power is the default constant-energy style, while Linear, Smoothstep, and Radial offer different response curves. You can also switch the pad to control cutoff and resonance directly instead of morphing between filter models.
For me, though, the modulation system is where Quad Morph Filter really gets fun. It includes 19 LFO waveforms, from basic sine, triangle, sawtooth, and pulse shapes to random, noise, geometric, and chaotic patterns. There is also a Recording mode that lets you draw custom XY movement directly on the morph pad.
The LFO system can modulate morphing, cutoff, resonance, LFO rate, and dry/wet range. Tempo sync ranges from 8/1 to 1/64, with dotted and triplet variants, and free-rate operation goes from 0.01 Hz to 20 Hz.
You also get oversampling, an envelope follower, dry/wet mix smoothing, output gain, a limiter ceiling, automatic gain compensation for the Moog and TB-303 models, and a real-time frequency response display.
Also, I reached out to the developer to ask about the development process, and he responded that Quad Morph Filter does not use AI-generated code or training data. It is a traditional parametric filter morphing engine written in C++20 with JUCE 8, using hand-designed DSP and an auditable GPLv3 source code release.
Before you download, please note that тhe GitHub page includes a safety warning, and it is worth taking seriously. Quad Morph Filter can generate loud output, especially with resonant and experimental settings, so start with low monitoring levels and keep an eye on your output meter.
