Audio Plugin Deals is offering the Singularis piano by SampleTekk for free for the next two weeks. The plugin normally costs $49.
Singularis is a virtual piano instrument designed to recreate the sound of recordings from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Back then, studios worked with a few microphones, limited tape tracks, and most music was recorded live with very few overdubs.
That workflow led to a specific sound that most of us will recognize from the movies and art of that era. I’m personally not a big fan of that sound (classic 80s child), but there definitely aren’t many instruments designed to deliver those tones, so Singularis aimed to capture it.
I’m pretty sure this one is built with the Maze Sampler platform, which lets developers create pretty good sample-based plugins without any actual coding.
You get the standard set of controls that typically come with Maze Sampler instruments. There’s reverb, delay, chorus, an envelope section, velocity control, and the option to change the reverb impulse response.
With instruments like these, though, what matters most are the samples themselves, and here you get a solid piano with a slightly worn character.
It’s not the most feature-packed piano instrument, of course. But Singularis is all about that old-school quality, so if you’re trying to make something with 50s or 60s vibes, this is a good way to get there.
The piano was recorded and processed through vintage analog equipment, and there’s plenty of saturation and warmth in the samples. It’s a good fit for jazz, blues, early rock and roll, or vintage cinematic scoring.
Singularis is a mono instrument, true to the era it recreates. A focused mono piano can sit in a mix without washing over other elements, and it gives the sound that 50s feel.
