Baby Audio is one of my favourite developers, in large part because they have a knack for creating quirky, fun tools that deliver serious results. Now, you can get 69% off Baby Audio’s Spaced Out at Plugin Boutique for a limited time.
While a fun and simple workflow remains a priority, Baby Audio offers some of the most creative and modern plugins around.
Baby Comeback makes me think of the song Baby Come Back, not the 1970s Player record; I mean the 90s hit from UB40 and Pato Banton.
There’s no relevance in that information; I just want to inflict it on others while it’s stuck in my head.
If you don’t already know about Spaced Out, it’s a kind of modern reimagining of the classic Space Echo effect.
Heavily inspired by Roland’s famous hardware unit, Baby Audio considered how that product would be created in software form with today’s technology, rather than a straight emulation.
The plugin has three sections: the Echoes, Space, and Mix modules.
Eachoes features a tempo-synced, sixteen-step delay sequencer with four modes (Straight, 2X, Dotted, and Triplet).
You then have several functions and parameters that alter the delay’s character and behaviour. For example, you can reverse the playback direction or change the Texture settings.
There are four texture modes available (Clean, Wonky Tape, Lofi, and Hazy), and I really like this as a quick way to completely transform the sound.
The Space module has four programs: Vacuum, Small Space, Medium Space, and Outer Space.

You can play with relatively small reverbs to ultra-wide open spaces. The Space module has a few great features that help keep things under control, such as low/high-end damping and a Clean-Up mode that creates a less dense response.
On the creative side, there’s a lovely high-end shimmer (Stardust), and an excellent X/Y control that lets you morph between reverb length and modulation behaviour.
Some users might want more modulation controls, and Spaced Out has more going on than you see, but Baby Audio does a good job of balancing enough hands-on control with a user-friendly interface.
The Mix module is where you blend the magic of Echoes and Space with another X/Y control, a ducker, and a randomiser function.
At £25, it’s a solid buy, especially if you haven’t already claimed a free copy of Distiller yet.
