WaveShaper has released Nya8 (Not Yet Another 808), an 808 sample pack with a heavily character-driven approach to the classic drum machine we all know and love. The full pack costs $5.90, and a free version containing 25 samples is available on the product page.

Seeing WaveShaper release something is worth noting for anyone who’s been around long enough to remember when indie sound designers like him were more active.
Back when I was starting BPB, WaveShaper was a familiar name on forums like KVR Audio (we didn’t use Reddit and Discord back then), and getting a new free sample pack, no matter how small, was something to get excited about.
We didn’t have the insane number of 808 packs that exist today. Getting a batch of freshly processed 808 sounds was a reason to celebrate.
Those were also the days when GoldBaby was releasing 808 sample packs that paved new ground with unique outboard processing. It inspired me to put out a free 808 sample pack myself back then, resampled from a cassette tape, which you can still download on BPB (the free BPB Cassette 808 pack)
The processing approach in Nya8 isn’t all that far removed from that old idea. And it’s good to see WaveShaper active again after a long time.
Nya8 is packed with one-shot samples processed through vintage German tubes, varispeed cassette players, and 12-bit samplers.
It’s a collection of kicks, snares, and cymbals with a very crisp sound, enhanced with outboard gear. The processing choices are the main feature here. This isn’t a clean 808 sample pack; it’s a version of those iconic sounds with grit and texture deliberately baked in.
The full download is 177 MB and includes hundreds of 24-bit, 48kHz stereo WAV one-shots, neatly named and organized by category for a quick workflow.
The pack covers electro, techno, lo-fi, hip-hop, trap, and similar genres, with plenty of variations, accents, and nuances across each sound type to fit different styles and productions.
And yes, there’s a free version, too.
