Kumbengo Afro Percussion
Afro Percussion is a neural rhythm engine trained entirely on recordings of percussionist and producer Ben Aylon’s own playing.
Instead of drawing from anonymous datasets or synthesized sounds, every pattern the plugin generates is rooted in Ben’s performances. That includes his signature timing, groove, dynamics, and musical decisions.
This is pretty cool if you want to add custom Afro percussion to your tunes without having to browse loops on your hard drive.
The plugin generates continuous, evolving percussion patterns using a neural network. It produces rhythms with natural microtiming and human feel.
Because patterns are generated rather than retrieved from a fixed library, the output stays varied without repeating.
You can customize the output with a set of controls like Similarity, Density, and Intensity, which let you shape the loops from sparse single-percussion grooves to more complex textures.
That said, my favorite feature is the ability to respond to audio from your project.
You can route a track in, and the plugin will analyze its groove. It will then generate percussion patterns that align with the rhythmic feel of the source material.
MIDI export is handled via drag-and-drop, so you can pull generated rhythms into your DAW and use them with your own sounds. Three signature percussion kits are included, recorded from Ben’s personal collection. All output is royalty-free.
Afro Percussion is available in VST3 and AU formats for all major DAWs. It normally retails at $50. Enter the giveaway using the form below.
Five lucky winners will be announced on March 7th.
For readers who don’t win, there’s a 20% discount (BPB-KUMBENGO-10) to get the plugin for $40 instead of $50. It’s valid for two weeks.
