Developer Saint Mike DSP has released Tamazight Metal Amp, a free all-in-one guitar amp simulator for metal (but I think it also works for rock). An optional paid version is also available with additional features.
Tamazight Metal Amp gives you a complete metal guitar signal chain in a single plugin. From left to right, the chain runs through pre-amp pedals, an amp head, a cabinet section, a 9-band EQ, and post-FX pedals.
The free version includes a Compressor and Drive pedal in the pre-amp stage, and Delay and Reverb in the post-FX stage. The Delay has Time, Feedback, Wear (analog coloration), and Mix controls. The Reverb offers Low Cut, High Cut, Decay, and Mix.
The amp head is voiced for modern heavy music and covers a wide range of sub-genres, including thrash metal, metalcore, djent, heavy metal, and nu-metal, as well as grunge and punk. You can adjust the Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Depth, Burn, and Presence. The cabinet section offers three voiced modes, each with Low Cut, High Cut, and Level controls.
The 9-band graphic EQ covers frequencies from 62 Hz to 16 kHz, with ±12 dB of control per band, giving you decent precision for carving out a mix-ready tone. After the EQ and post-FX, the chain includes a tight noise gate to keep high-gain passages clean between notes.
Two features I loved in the free version are the Transpose and the built-in Tuner. The Transpose covers ±12 semitones, so you can shift pitch without leaving your session. It works surprisingly well for lead guitars and harmonies.
The tuner is another nice bonus and it mutes the output while in use, so it doesn’t interrupt your workflow.
The plugin also includes a Spread control for widening the stereo image and a preset library with 20+ presets covering modern rhythm tones, leads, cleans, and FX starting points.
The Pro version expands on the free version in several areas. It adds two additional amp heads (Clean and Lead characters alongside the standard head), six cabinet modes plus user IR loading, and two extra pedals: “The Abyss” in the pre-amp stage and “The Stars” in the post-FX stage.
The Pro version also includes oversampling for higher-gain clarity and a larger preset library of 50+ presets.
Tamazight Metal Amp is available in VST3 and AU formats for macOS 11 and higher (Intel and Apple Silicon native) and Windows 10 and higher (64-bit). There is no AAX support at this time.
