A few days ago, I mentioned that we hadn’t seen many sample packs on our freebie desk over the last few weeks.
Now, a few days later, as the saying goes, when it rains, it pours, and we’re amid a shower of free sample packs with more on the way. The latest offerings are two free and unusual sample packs: Sounds of Horror and Junk Store Finds.
Here’s a recap of what’s on offer:
We can now add Sounds of Horror and Junk Store Finds to that list.
Sounds of Horror by Smart-Sound FX is available for free at Ugritone. You’ll have to be quick with this one; the offer is set to end in around 24 hours from the time of writing (24 December 2025).
Sounds of Horror is a collection of 100 horror sounds that are ideal for media composition or dark metal music.
We’ve seen horror packs before, and they always offer weird and gruesome sounds, but this pack has a few sounds I’m not sure I’ve seen elsewhere.
In addition to the more typical door creaks, metal clunks, and scrapes, you’ve got things like creepy marching footsteps, human breath, and even clenching teeth.
If you want something a little bit different, grab it while you can.
From something a little different to something a little more different, we also have Junk Store Finds by UFX056.
Junk Store Finds is available for free until January 1, 2025 (usually $9)
This free pack is full of, well, things found in a junk store.
The collection includes:
- An old rusty sword
- Kids toys
- A metal bowl
- A string of plastic floats
- Metal candlesticks
- A small drum
The sounds recorded with these items are a mixed bag of clinks and clanks, scrapes, and rattles.
If I had to describe Junk Store Finds in short, I’d say it’s random in every way.
Random items, random sounds, and random results; the kind of thing that comes in useful when you least expect it.
As an unashamed lover of 80s movies, my absolute favorite thing about this pack is that the small drum looks like a little denden-daiko, like the ones from The Karate Kid 2.
It’s those little handheld pellet drums with beads attached to strings that make a rattle sound.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in Okinawa, Japan, and found myself involved in a karate showdown in front of an entire village (I’m sure we’ve all been there).
I can’t help but feel I’d have won some of those showdowns, had I had a denden-daiko, or even the sound of one on my phone to inspire some surprisingly effective moves.
Thanks to Junk Store Finds and a training montage, I will have my revenge.
DISCLAIMER: 80s-style karate showdowns are not a game; get involved at your peril.
I want to give a quick Christmas Eve thank you to every BPB reader; I appreciate your time and comments very much. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas or not, I wish you all the best; cheers!
