On Saturday, The Crow Hill Company launched its new Tuned Gongs library for Vaults, which is now available for free download.
The Vaults range of plugins runs on macOS and Windows in AU, VST3, VST, and AAX formats.
Tuned Gongs features four… wait for it… tuned gongs that the dev suggests were cast for gong bath therapy!
The Crow Hill Company states that the gongs offer bold fundamentals, engaging harmonics, and a bottom end that can shake the room. The gongs are sized at 34”, 24”, 19”, and 15”.
If you want to hear what that sounds like in practice, the dev has produced an intro video/demo on YouTube that showcases the gongs’ sound.
Crow Hill explains that the devs “basically overlapped and layered” the four gongs to create a “quite rudimentary” piano chromatic instrument.
The plugin offers the following parameters to tweak the sound: Expression, Sub Bass, LFP, Delay, Reverb, and Crystallizer.
The plugin’s slight pitch movements on the low end and volume fluctuations give a super-wide, phat low end that’s unique to the plugin.
To my ears, Tuned Gongs offers a mystical sound with a lot of gravitas to it.
With just six parameters, it’s a pretty simple plugin, but they are well chosen to accentuate the qualities of the gongs and add some interesting creative expression to how you process the sounds.
It’s definitely a remarkable drop, as a high-quality, perfectly tuned gong plugin available for free download isn’t something that comes along every day.
I found the plugin download process quite fiddly if you’re not an existing Crow Hill Company user.
First up, you’ll need to create an account with The Crow Hill Company by clicking on ‘MY ACCOUNT’ at the top right-hand corner of their website and signing up after clicking through. You’ll then need to activate your account via the link they email you.
After that, go straight to the ‘FREE’ page via the site header, and click the shopping cart icon below the Tuned Gongs image.
Go to your cart, and you’ll be prompted to provide a name, email, and shipping address in the cart.
And once you’ve ordered the plugin, you’ll need to download (or open) the Crow Hill App to install the plugin.
