Saint Mike DSP has released Ceiling Fan, a FREE (limited-time offer) clipper/limiter plugin for macOS and Windows.
I believe the Ceiling Fan from Saint Mike DSP was released a couple of weeks ago, but I missed it on release, and I thought I’d share the news for anyone else who hasn’t checked it out yet.
The downside is that I might have to wait a while before putting the Ceiling Fan to work, as I’m still waiting for my download email.
To download the plugin, which is free for a limited time (no end date is specified), you have to subscribe to the Saint Mike DSP mailing list. After that, you should receive a download link and occasional updates/news (you can unsubscribe at any time).
The good news is that whatever the issue is with my download link, I’m sure it will be resolved soon, and as Saint Mike DSP is new to me, there’s still plenty to discuss without delaying the news further.
Hopefully, you won’t experience the same delay, but feel free to share your experience in the comments either way.
Ceiling Fan is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS (12.0 and higher – Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows (10/11). The plugin is compatible with all major DAWs besides Pro Tools.
Saint Mike DSP designed Ceiling Fan for those who want to create loud and distorted music, while maintaining a clean, high-quality sound.
At first sight, Ceiling Fan certainly looks the part; the polished interface includes very nice Input/Output and Reduction meters.
The controls are few and simple, which is typically best for this sort of plugin.
You can set the main Ceiling parameter from -32 dBFS to 0 dBFS and adjust the Output plus or minus 12 dB.
The plugin also features Drive and Color controls (Dark, Default, Bright) for adding analog-like distortion.
Saint Mike DSP provides some audio demos, showcasing how the plugin increases the perceived loudness and limits to avoid peaking. It would be great to have some before/after demos with Ceiling Fan on the master track, but the current demos highlight that loudness can come with excellent clarity, so I’m excited to give it a try.
I’ve long been an admirer of System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, particularly for how he produces projects that are aggressively loud and distorted in parts, yet every individual element remains pristine.
Ceiling Fan is the third plugin from Saint Mike DSP, following Primal Distortion and the Lunar Eclipse Amp Sim. Ceiling Fan won’t always be free, so if you want that loud, but pristine sound, check it out soon.
