Kuassa has released TilQ Equalizer, a free tilt EQ plugin for Windows and macOS.
There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking here, but TilQ is a solid, well-built tilt EQ that delivers precisely what you’d expect. You get quick and transparent tonal balance reshaping with minimal fuss.
The plugin offers a single tilt EQ with adjustable frequency, Q, and tilt amount, along with a high-pass filter (HPF), low-pass filter (LPF), and output gain control. You can bypass the filters if you just want to use the tilt section.
This kind of EQ isn’t something I reach for every day, but TilQ reminded me why I should. Tilt EQs are great for quick tonal adjustments.
Instead of juggling multiple EQ bands or filter curves to brighten or darken a sound, you just turn one knob. If you need a sound to cut through in the higher frequencies, tilt it towards the highs. And if you want to tame a harsh signal, simply tilting towards the lows often does the trick.
I’ve always thought of tilt EQs as one of those tools that are more useful than they seem. They’re perfect for early tone-shaping in cinematic sound design.
However, as I mentioned, I often forget that they exist (and it’s not that there aren’t freeware options already available, such as freeTILT and TILTA), so this release serves as a helpful reminder.
Kuassa also nailed the GUI with this one. It features a modern, bold design with two color options: light pink and dark purple. The knobs are big and easy to use, which always nice when you’re trying to dial in a sound quickly.
One thing worth noting is that you’ll need a free Kuassa user account to get it. After signing up, you can redeem the license directly in your account’s user area.
TilQ Equalizer is compatible with 64-bit Windows 7 or later and macOS 10.13 or later. It supports VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats. It’s also compatible with Apple Silicon and will be available as a Rack Extension for Reason soon.
