Reason has dropped off a new diss track, throwing his hat in the ring in the ongoing beef between Joey Badass and Ray Vaughn.

On Friday (May 16), the former TDE rapper shared “The Dead Apple,” a four-minute lyrical assault that takes aim at both Joey Badass and the city of New York.

It comes after Joey used Reason’s departure from TDE as a punchline in a bar going at Ray Vaughn on recent diss record, “The Finals.” “You’re the next n***a gettin’ dropped off thе Top roster/And I’ma be the Rеason,” Joey raps on the track.

Surprised by the mention, Reason lets it be known in the opening bars of “The Dead Apple” that he took particular exception to Joey’s words. “Dear Joey Joey, ain’t expect my name to be spoken/That shit really hurt my heart, I can truly say that it’s broken,” he spits.

He continues: “I get it’s just a bar, but when I sit down and focus/It’s a coast jealousy that you n***as started, we ain’t noticed/Y’all used to be the mecca, you n***as was really goated/We heard your techniques and applied it while y’all was gloatin.“

Split into three parts, Reason raps over a variety of beats, including Ja Rule, Fat Joe and Jadakiss‘ “New York,” which adds further fuel to the fire when the West Coast MC raps: “This ain’t the New York I know.”

He also uses a soundbite from Mase to jab at New York City: “We’re not your lil’ n***as. Like the way you talk it, I don’t, I don’t get what you mean. We’re not your little n***as, like for real.”

At one point, Reason takes a moment to tell fans that he didn’t get dropped from TDE, explaining that he actually walked away. “Never been dropped, had to slide for my interest,” he claims. “Left up a hunnid, ask God as my witness/Steppin’ on my own ‘cause I needed my percentage/Unique chain boy, I’m cold independent.“

Joey Badass and Ray Vaughn first started trading shots earlier this year after Joey took aim at the entire West Coast on “The Ruler’s Back.” Things reignited this week after Red Bull released its latest Spiral Freestyle featuring Big Sean, Ab-Soul and Joey Badass. During the cypher, Joey again took shots at Vaughn, who himself responded a day later with “Hoe Era,” a diss track that references Joey’s Pro Era collective.

Less than a day later, Joey dropped off “The Finals,” another track directly targeting Vaughn. The fresh diss hears Joey proudly repping New York City while making a case for himself as one of the fiercest rappers on the scene.
